This seven session, twelve hour course is designed to give the voice teacher a solid foundation in scientific and pedagogical concepts to help enhance their teaching. Each week we will explore a different topic with in depth discussions, assignments, readings, and practical exploration. The aim of this class is to bring a solid scientific foundation to your teaching, make your instruction more effective in the voice studio, and improve the efficiency of your student's singing. This class is perfect for any teacher who is looking to improve their knowledge and teaching skills, especially those who might be new to the scientific concepts covered.

  • Laryngeal, Respiratory, and Articulatory Anatomy and Physiology

  • Basic Biomechanics of Voice Production

  • The Nature of Sound, Acoustics, and Resonance

  • Vocal Health and the Singing Teacher

  • Applied Studio Teaching

  • The How and Why of Vocal Exercises

  • Assigning Repertoire

The Developing Voice explores working with kids and teens. We cover developmental concerns, inaccurate singers, building vocal exercises, considerations for repertoire, and vocal health concerns. This course is best viewed after Vocal Pedagogy Foundations, but may be purchased separately. The course is 2 hours and available to watch on your own time for one year from purchase. This course is designed for those who have taken the Vocal Pedagogy Foundations course. It is expected that you have an understanding of anatomy, physiology, acoustics, designing exercises, and assigning repertoire.

Belting: The Basics will examine the history of belting, the various aspects of defining a belt, an exploration of the semantics of belting, and begin an in-depth look at how to teach belting. There will be a particular focus on working with more beginning belters with real examples from lessons.

Course topics include:

  • The history of belting

  • A discussion of the varied definitions of belting, including acoustic and registration definitions,

  • An exploration of the semantics around belting

  • An in-depth look at ways to teach belting at all levels.

This course is designed for those who have taken the Vocal Pedagogy Foundations and Belting: The Basics Courses. It is expected that you have an understanding of anatomy, physiology, acoustics, designing exercises, and assigning repertoire.

Belting: Beyond The Basics will review concepts learned in Belting: The Basics as well as take an in-depth look at the nuance and variation of belting and explore how to work with more advanced belters, including more information about assigning repertoire for belters. Real examples from voice lessons will be included in the course, as well as listening examples of advanced, professional, belters.

This community is for people who have taken, or are currently taking, Vocal Pedagogy Foundations. The community is a place to deepen your knowledge after Vocal Pedagogy Foundations and the belting courses, especially as you begin to apply what you’ve learned into your teaching.
